OoC: Alright! We're going to have this briefing post, which will address the mission and such like, then an opportunity to ask questions and or make suggestions, then we'll jump straight in to the combat. If you feel like you want to make any suggestions as to how the plan could be adapted or something then do so. Part of the point of this is that you, the players, can and will influence how things unfold. Also, unless Sali finishes his bio before the mission starts his character will not be taking part and will be... I don't know, eating fish or something.

On board Home Elena stood at the front of the briefing room, a shimmering holographic display laid out before her showing a broad stretch of land, thickly forested with a moutains to the north and foothills to the south. At her side stood a large, imposing Altaurian by the name of Grelsonaith Bruntlaive and a human woman wearing a Leiutenant's uniform of the 17th legion. Elena waited for her crew to settle down, taking them in with a little smile. They'd do just fine for this, though she still had a bad feeling about it. "Alright people listen up. This is Ambassador Grelsonaith Bruntlaive, and he's got a little job for us to do. The woman is Leiutenant Mia Frentz, she's to be our local support and liason on the ground. So, without further ado, Ambassador the floor is yours. Elena walked to the side of the room, leaning against the wall and watching her old acquaintaince at work. Hopefully he'd keep this short and simple, the Fists needed action as soon as possible.

"Thank you Commander Draxx. Greetings all of you. I know that you're all practical people so in a gross violation of all protocol I shall skip the flowery speeches and such like and proceed directly to the unvarnished truth of the matter. I, on behalf of the Altaurian government, have hired you to do a job. A job that requires the utmost secrecy. Nothing that passes between us in this room ever leaves it. Now, I'm not sure if any of you have heard about this but we have... an issue. This issue is called Trelivor Corsinth." On the screen behind the ambassador a large full body photo of the Trelivor flicked up, and to one side a list of his personal details and known history. He appeared to be the typical Altaurian diplomat, tall and broad shouldered like the bulk of his race, with a piercing stare and a warm, pleasant face. His list of tours and brokered settlements scrolling down off to one side was certainly impressive. Clearly this man had been a high flyer amongst the Altaurian Diplomatic service.

"This is your target. We would like him... silenced, permanently and discretely. We'd send in our own armed forces but we're afraid that such an act might make him some form of a martyr, draw others to his ridiculous cause. You see Trelivor has gathered a band of followers on Jalrev I, a border colony close to Skarvene territory. He's calling for democracy amongst the empire, and.... people seem to be listening, at least on Jalrev. The rest of empire's shrugging its shoulders, calling him a madman, but I've been told that in person he's particularly charismatic, and more and more people are flocking to his banner. We can't have this, especially not at this time of tension with the Skarvene build up along the border. Our plan is to take you and your mechs in a large civilian cruiser, specially fitted for mech transport. Once you reach your designated insertion point you and the leiutenant will be enter the atmosphere via drop pods, landing directly in the centre of the rabble encampment that Trelivor has constructed. Once you've landed, you will proceed to secure the area, dealing with any resistance as you see fit and ensure that Trelivor breathes his last. Leiutenant Frentz, if you would like to carry on from here?"

"Thank you ambassador," Mia's cool, collected tones took up precisely where the ambassador had left off. "The camp itself is lightly defended. From my own personal examination of it and the scouting reports I received approximately an hour ago there are six mechs defending it and a collection of ragged looking fighters. I estimate that maybe 50% of these fighters are operational. The mechs appear to be of a retired Altaurian design, all medium class with light armanents. If you'd direct your attention here," she said, gesturing at the holographic display, "The red dots circling the encampment represent the mechs' patrol routes, so far they've never deviated from that pattern, always staying within a kilometre of the camp and circling it in groups of 2, 4 on patrol, two in the camp itself. The guards are rotated off of their patrols approximately every 3 hours. These blue dots indicated probable drop co-ordinates for you and myself, a tight pattern around the centre of the encampment. Finally the yellow dots indicate heavy weapon emplacements, one at the centre and 6 more scattered around the perimeter of the camp. Those these could function as AA defences, they are not currently angled to fire that way, and by the time they could be brought to bear we would already have landed. Trevilor makes his home here in the tent marked purple on this map. So, the plan is simple. We use orbital drop pods to land in the centre of the encampment, destroy any and all resistance and eliminate Trevilor. Any questions?" Mia raised an eyebrow as she folded her arms, taking in the Fists once more and wondering if they actuallly deserved the reputation they'd made for themselves.

"Now, hold on a minute." Eggman said, looking at the dogman, then at Elena. "When did we become murderers? Are we really going to kill innocents in cold blood?"

Braid sat there looking rather ashamed. Here was his ambassador ordering the assassination of another Altaurian. Braid looked from Elena to Bruntlaive and nodded in agreement with Eggman. "How am I expected to go along with this mission? I have to join in the killing of a fellow Altaurian in cold blood."

"I'll take that question if neither of you mind," Elena said from where she leant against the wall, a little half smile on her face as she turned to address the semi circle of seated Fists. "Firstly Tom, we're not exactly hunting down innocents here. According to what I've heard from these two and a couple of old friends with the alliance these rebel colonists have been preying on the local settlements, killing and looting without mercy to keep themselves supplied. They're no better than the pirates we faced off with last year. I'm surprised you'd think I'd take on a job if it was cold blooded murder. Does that satisfy you Braid, or is this about our agreement? If it helps they'll know we'll be coming as soon as we break atmo, the drop pods are going to make a hell of a noise, and we'll likely be taking fire from their mechs as soon as land, if not before. From the intel that the leiutenant's provided though the weapons on their mechs won't breach the pods' armour. It'll be a simple matter of coming out shooting and neutralising the threats, dealing with the leader and then call in Home to collect us. As for killing him? You do realise that..."

"That if we asked you to bring him in alive he'd face execution for his crimes." Bruntlaive interruputed Elena, much to her apparent annoyance judging by the scowl that crossed her face. "Any trial we held would be a complete formality, his guilt is already confirmed. He's broadcasting his foul slander against our King all over the local news net. I'm surprised that you're so resistant to the idea young one, this is a matter of honour. Trelivor has turned his back on us all through his actions, stirring up unrest on this world and hoping to spread it further if the tone of his protest videos is to be believed, and I don't have to tell you what that would mean for the Empire if this kind of thing were to spread..." Bruntlaive tailed off, his arms folded as he fixed his intense gaze on the young Altaurian before him, his face stern with the reprimand that was hinted at by the tone of his voice.

Selene seemed a little bored, slouching in her seat and sighing at her comrade's questions. Anyone who knew Elena half as well as a Fist should would know she wouldn't even consider the job if it meant innocent casualties - that wasn't the Fist way. She raised a hand to study her fingernails and actively yawned.

"So while everyone else is shooting at each other, am I to infiltrate the base and hit the mark, Miss Draxx?"

"Anti-Aircraft..." Roy whispered. That meant he wouldn't want to jump unless he had a death wish. He'd still have to keep his Sniper Cannon for the fighters, but he wouldn't be able to take to the air without getting those AA guns inactive.

That wouldn't be a problem, though. The main target was Trelivor; once they took care of him, they could mop up any of the riff-raff. Roy remained silent - he could think of some things to ask, but he decided to leave those to the others.

Syrus smirked a little at Tom's and Braid's protests. They were mercenaries, and they were paid to do the dirty work someone else couldn't for whatever reason. Even though he had his limits, Syrus had almost no qualms in killing for money. It was his job after all. He waited for Elena to finish answering their questions before voicing his own.

"My questions are more concerned with strategical issues. First off, does this guy have any extra bases of operation in the planet? There could be a chance of this base being a decoy. Any info on whether our target can pilot a mech? What about any escape plans he may have, like using one of the faster fighters to run away while we fight the mechs?

I'd also like to know the chances of the base we're attacking recieving backup, either planet-side or orbital.

And what about the skarvenes? I'm not too familiar with skarvene politics, but they may not like people fighting so close to their borders.

As far as our deployment goes, I'm all for going toe to toe and dealing heavy damage up front, but we have 2 mechs that excell in long range bombardment. Shouldn't we deploy them as far away as possible and use them as snipers? They could be deployed first, shoot down the AA guns, maybe even the target and any escaping enemies once we are deployed. That's all I can come up with, at least for now"

"If you're worried about the fighters, the Silver Blood will be taking care of those pests." The small sigiline spoke; cold, emotionless. Cali was clearly in control, though none but Elena would know that. The Fists were an interesting group for sure, each member an unknown piece of a puzzle with no edge pieces and no reference. Even the leader had her secrets... though Monica was quite certain she knew at least one more than anyone else.

"So long as someone takes out two adjacent sentry guns around the perimeter and the central gun, I'll make sure those fighters never even hear the scramble order."

Her claws glinted in the dull lighting, occasionally lighting up yellow as she cycled through her plasma claws, testing response times and feedback rates. She probably wouldn't need to use them this mission, but they were such delicate machines that she couldn't help but tinker with them.

Elena nodded at Selene's question, deciding to take that first. "I had thought that you'd come in after the rest of us have landed, move to locate and dispatch the target in the Seramile while the rest of us dealt with the defences. Even if he starts running as soon as they're aware of the drop he won't get far. Apparently the Leuitenant's operatives have managed to secure a tracking beacon on the target as well so you won't even need visual confirmation. As for the situation on the ground Syrus, I think you're best equipped to answer that Leiutenant."

"Thank you Commander Draxx. Intel indicates that this is Trevilor's only encampment, he hasn't had the time to start spreading out just yet. Trevilor will have had a basic mech piloting course while at the academy, but I'm sure mercenaries with your reputation will have no problems dealing with him if he manages to reach a mech. The base itself is made up of malcontents, trouble makers and the like. They aren't popular amongst the locals and should it be removed I imagine they'll be the first ones to spit on the ashes. As for ships in orbit... we're checking each and every ship that comes in or off world, long distance scans for the most part since we don't want to tip our hand. So far, nothing suspicious has come up. As for the Skarvene armada that's gathering... details are sketchy, but there aren't any particular build ups near the planet, so we can only assume that they're not involved in this. Besides, traitor Trevilor might be, suicidal he's not." Mia paused before answering the last question, running a hand thoughtfully through her close cropped blonde hair. "The mechs with longer range capabilities could be deployed outside the encampment to assault the AA capable guns, I merely wished to have this come to an end as quickly as possible by deploying the mechs together at the centre of the encampment. All of the guns are currently positioned to fire outwards, and given the frankly amateur setup they've got it'll take them a couple of minutes to reposition them to fire inwards. I myself prefer longer range engagements but would be willing to join the mechs at the edge of the battle site if that's your decision Commander Draxx."

"Hmmm... Syrus does have a point. A drop half a mile from the encampment would draw all of their attention there... but it would allow more time for Trelivor to escape. What are his possible avenues?"
"The fighters perhaps, he does have a personal hover transport as well."
"Regardless though, whatever method he chooses to make his getaway the tracker your men have planted would lead us straight to him."
"Indeed."
"Alright then, Tom and I will drop first with Mia and engage the enemy. The rest of you barring Selene will come down 30 seconds after we've landed. However, I think it would be wise to have Selene in place close to the encampment and undercover, ready to take Trevilor down if he runs, that is of course if you're willing to take the risk Selene?"
"Doing so heightens the..."
"My men Leuitenant," Elena said, cutting Mia off, "lets hear what Selene has to say first before we start working out the details shall we? To get back to the point. With Monica straffing the fighters, Tom and I taking out the sentry guns, the rest of you taking out the mechs and Selene making sure our target doesn't escape... that sounds like a workable plan. Anyone else have anything further to add?"

Selene smiled, suddenly finding the briefing interesting. "You know I prefer my work with a little risk, Miss Draxx," she said in a sing-song voice. "So, tell me, the data from your tracking device, can it be fed into a personal computer? Otherwise I'm not going to have anything to track him with when I'm on foot."

She laughed softly, almost a sly giggle, then sat back in her seat.

Braid looked down in shame. "I am sorry to have questioned this ambassador. I should have known my place. Forgive me."

With that Braid looked up to Elena. "Where would you like for me to land? I am not a great fighter as you very well know." Braid had a very serious tone in his voice. He was not happy with the situation but regardless he had to do his job. It was after all the way of his people.
